Catering or Banqueting, what’s the differences?
When you choose the venue, you choose also between catering, banqueting or a restaurant.
Do you know the difference between these three?
Gift your guests with the best of Italian cuisine!
You will find yourself in front of many different solutions and menus, you can choose the tradition but you can also offer something different!
This is how a wedding meal takes place:
After the ceremony, guests arrive at the location you have chosen and this is the Time Line:
- An aperitif with a musical background
- Lunch or dinner at the table
- Sweets and fruit’s Buffet
- White Table
- Wedding Cake
The service at the table.
Some vendors offer you the choice of the type of table service. Let’s see together the most common types.
The French service
The guest serves himself, taking the food, in the quantity and type desired, from the serving dish. In the direct French service the waiter hands the serving dish from the guest’s left. With his right hand he offers the clips to the guest. In the indirect French service the dishes and the clips are placed on the table and then passed between the guests. It is used in taverns, inns and farms; in restaurants and during banquets.
The Italian service
Dishes are prepared in the kitchen. The waiter serves them on the right side of the guest. It is the most common and used service.
The English service
The waiter serves the dishes from the left side of the host, taking them with the clips from the serving dishes that he holds on the left forearm. This type of service is usually used for the encore of some courses during the wedding reception.
What is the difference between Catering, Banqueting and Restaurant?
- Catering: It does not cook on site, but brings precooked food.
- Banqueting: Kitchen on site, so all that is served is done at the moment. Offers a lot of menu solutions. It is often provided with different tablecloths and mise en place to choose from. It therefore gives a wide range of personalization to the event.
- Restaurant: A “limited” but consolidated menu proposal. It offers a decidedly narrower choice of tablecloths and mise en place.
I recommend, in general, to go for a banqueting.
This choice will allow you to have a more personalized wedding and not “made with the stencil”, as it could happen if the alternatives of tablecloth are: “Either the white tablecloth or the … white”!
You will have a wider selection of Menù, from traditional Italian cuisine to sushi.
You will experience a unique event.
I do not recommend the Catering, because the precooked is almost always of poor quality, by Italian standards. A Catering can be perfect for an aperitif, where foods such as sandwiches, finger foods and all those foods that do not suffer from being prepared in advance.
